A lot of work goes into the method of designing determined skating costumes. First, Kyongsool watches watch movies. She determines the kind of skating program and listens to the music. She must then meet and measure the athlete before creating her design. After developing the costume, details corresponding to the beads are added.

The design course is collaborative. Kyongsool says, “Because these clothes are for athletes. I do my best to do what they envision.

Jun Hwan needed his fast schedule outfit for a specific time. For this, Kyongsool started with a circle, because it is the shape of a clock.

Then she was able to create the story of time with an overlay element.

You know, once you put Post-its on top of each other and transfer them in the air, they flap. I noticed that the time expressed. It looks pretty, but not excessive, and doesn’t make it too uncomfortable in motion, which is why I opted for this model.

For his free skating program, Kyongsool listened to the music and decided to accept blue for the primary coloring. She says, “the gold decorations on the outfit represented the details expressed in the music.”

Not all suits work. Kyongsool recalled a time when she made an outfit that Jun Hwan didn’t like.

Jun Hwan is ideal…and since I thought he might pull something off, I immediately gave him a green suit that looked more medieval. He didn’t put it on, so I asked him why and he mentioned that it looked like a Christmas tree.

Still, Kyongsool hopes he’ll don the costume someday. Even if he won’t wear it in public, she hopes he will at least try it!
