Best RPGs for Nintendo Switch 2022: The Ultimate RPG

(Pocket-lint) – A good role-playing game is unlike any other genre, letting you slip into a new identity like a new set of clothes and offering a world to explore and fit in with.

The Nintendo Switch might not be the most powerful console out there, but it has a huge catalog of great RPGs you can play, including some really special titles. We’ve rounded up the crème de la crème for you to experience, right here.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

There couldn’t have been a better launch game to sell Switch consoles than Breath of the Wild. Long in the works and delayed for over a year, it was worth the wait as it’s one of the best RPGs ever made.

The massive open-world RPG has many facets. Every nook and cranny of the wonderful game world is filled with adventures and puzzles. And while it adds craftsmanship to well-known themes, it’s non-obtrusive and blends seamlessly.

Disco Elysium – The Final Cut

Probably the best and most ambitious RPG of modern times, Disco Elysium tells the story of a single crime that you, a drunk detective, must solve. Its storyline is simply on another level, and the freedom it gives you to go about things your own way is unparalleled.

It won’t be to everyone’s taste, wordy as it is, but the Switch is a perfect place to play it, allowing you to engage in quick sessions as you try to piece together what’s happening in the docks in Revachol decomposition.

The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening

Link’s Awakening nicely fills the void as we await Breath of the Wild’s sequel, with its isometric action-RPG charm and fiendish puzzles. This is a remake from the ground up of the GameBoy classic that will be remembered by everyone over a certain age. But, even if you do, it’s worth revisiting because it feels completely fresh on its own.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Complete Edition

Unofficially dubbed The Switcher, the Switch version of The Witcher 3 is nothing short of a technical marvel. The massive open-world RPG was a major feat on Xbox One and PS4, not to mention a handheld games console. And while it’s been stripped down a bit graphically, everything that makes it one of the best games of all time is also present on Switch.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons

If you want a change of pace while living out a fantasy of escape, the latest Animal Crossing might just be the perfect game for you. It’s relaxing, delicious, and sweet, and will never threaten you with the stresses of some more “mature” games on this list. We loved every minute of our time with him, and know he will capture hearts and minds over time.

Fire Emblem: Three Houses

The latest installment in the acclaimed Fire Emblem franchise is an absolute doozy, with replayability ringing out of its ears. You play as a teacher in an officer academy and quickly choose one of three houses to teach. This choice will see you pursuing radically different storylines, but all strands share its two gameplay pillars. These are brutal strategic battles with turn-based combat and free time that you can spend getting to know a large number of memorable characters. It’s a game to fall into for hours at a time.

Diablo III: Eternal Collectio

The classic top-down dungeon slayer is ideal as a special edition for Switch, feeling surprisingly fresh and playable despite arriving years after its original release. The fact that it’s playable in handheld format takes gaming to a whole new level and gives the Switch something that’s often been missing from previous Nintendo consoles: adult content.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Skyrim is one of the most important and revered role-playing games of all time. Releasing the entire game, DLC and more, on a portable platform is nothing short of a miracle.

Plus, this is the remastered version that appeared on last-gen consoles, so you get a lot more for your money. It’s a true technological marvel and you’ll find yourself playing for many more months.
